Rick Scranton '90

Rick Scranton attended the University of Arizona from 1989 to 1993. Rick joined Kappa Sigma in the second half of his freshman year. During his time at U of A and with Kappa Sigma, his only leadership position within the chapter was that of pledge educator for the fall term 1993. Rick also worked for several summers and during the last 2-year school terms with FMG. Rick graduated with a Systems Engineering degree in 1993.

After graduating, Rick pursued and obtained an MS degree in Industrial Engineer before accepting a position at a small software company, Quality America, in Tucson. After 2.5 years at QA, Rick transitioned into a Quality Assurance role at Motorola. During his 3 years at Motorola, Rick worked as a QA engineer, Fab Photolithography engineer and a device engineer. While at Motorola, Rick also obtained an MS in Electrical Engineering. After his time at Motorola, Rick took a position as Yield Enhancement Engineer at Microchip Technology. As a Yield engineer, Rick managed a small team of engineers improving the overall performance of Microcontroller, Memory and Analog devices manufactured by Microchip.

After 8 years in the Yield role at the corporate offices in Chandler, Arizona, Rick was offered to work as an expat engineer at the Microchip factory in Bangkok, Thailand. The role was to setup, train and manage the Yield Enhancement team in Thailand. Over the next 14 years in Thailand, and via several acquisitions of other semiconductor companies, Rick has transitioned from Yield manager to Associate Director of Microcontroller Business Unit Operations. He is responsible for operations integration of acquired companies. His team is also responsible for the factory output of about 10 million units per day from Microchip’s two high volume test factories, one in Thailand and the other in the Philippines. Rick is currently leading a team of roughly 200 engineers located in 5 different countries and servicing about 75% of Microchip’s daily output.

 

Aston Ying '94

Aston pledged Kappa Sigma as a freshman in fall 1994 while studying pre-architecture. During his time at Gamma-Rho, Aston served as career chair and Grand Treasurer. After the current house was constructed in 1995, Aston lived in the house for 4 years with fellow brothers. After changing his major to business and management information systems, Aston pursued a 21 year career in technology and life sciences having worked at Oracle, Salesforce, IQVIA and multiple VC backed startups. Aston is passionate about pursuing new medical treatments to underserved patient communities leveraging science and technology.

 

Josh Surridge '00

Joshua Surridge is the global web manager for NCX (Natural Capital Exchange), a climate tech startup that is fighting climate change by democratizing access to natural capital markets. Using science, technology, and economics, NCX precisely measures and values forests beyond timber production, including carbon sequestration, biodiversity offsets, wildfire mitigation offsets, and more. The company has built a marketplace that brings together private landowners and net-zero pioneering companies. NCX just closed its Series B funding and is expanding to Canada and Mexico.

Josh has been a digital experience and content marketing leader for iconic brands including Red Bull Energy Drink, luxury wellness resorts brand Canyon Ranch, and helped launch the University of Arizona’s online learning platform. He holds an Arizona real estate license and helps buyers, sellers, and investors transact residential properties and land. He is a former NCAA baseball umpire working in the Pac-12 and WAC. Josh is an Eagle Scout.

A 2000 initiate of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Arizona, Josh served as Grand Procurator of the Gamma-Rho chapter, president of the Interfraternity Council, vice president of Arizona Allegiance (Traditions), and as an Arizona Ambassador. He is honored to be a past Matthew Whaley Scholarship winner.

 

Charlie Hall '01

Before starting Princeton Construction, Charlie spent 4 years at the UofA. He pledged his freshman year in 2000 and graduated in 2004 with a Bachelors in Economics. While at Gamma-Rho, Charlie served as House Manager, Kitchen Manager and led the annual construction of the Homecoming Float. He was the Handyman for Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority for 2 years.

After graduation, Charlie spent over sixteen years managing projects and building relationships throughout Arizona, Texas, and California. He focused on Healthcare, Commercial and Residential projects of various sizes. Charlie has worked in almost every position in the construction industry, from Laborer to Project Engineer, Superintendent to Project Manager/ Estimator. Over the past few years, Charlie has concentrated on preconstruction and client relations. His well-rounded experience in the industry gives him the ample picture expertise to manage a project from conception through completion.
