Earl Pottinger ’48

Brother Pottinger was born and raised in Nogales, Arizona. Upon graduation from High School in 1945, during World War II, he joined the United States Navy serving mostly on the battleship USS Texas. In the fall of 1946 he enrolled in the University of Arizona. He pledged Kappa Sigma and after initiation in 1948 found a niche as Social Chairman, a position he held for three years. He graduated with a degree in Education and was also commissioned a Second Lieutenant through ROTC in the United States Air Force.

He was called to active duty during the Korean Conflict in 1951 through 1953 and then returned to Tucson where he got into the Insurance Business. He, along with other Kappa Sigma Brothers, continued to organize and promote social events, golf tournaments and anything to continue the close relationship of Kappa Sigma. He stayed in the United States Air Force Reserve for 22 more years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After 21 years in insurance he opened a Bar and Restaurant in Nogales, Arizona and sold it after 15 years. Brother Pottinger and his wife, Marilyn, moved to Green Valley in 1996 where he continues to organize and promote including, in conjunction with homecoming, an annual dinner for around fifty brothers and their wives.
