As an undergrad at the University of Arizona, Steve excelled in his academic endeavors, making the Dean’s List in 1987, and meriting Honorable Mention in 1983, 1986, and 1988. He scored those marks while an active Kappa Sigma and flipping steaks at Pinnacle Peak Steak House. Brothers used to harass Steve for returning from work smelling like a grilled steak.
Brother Dean graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts, Economics (Minor Emphasis: Finance). He also attended the University of Washington where he received a Master of Arts, Economics. While attending the University of Washington, Steve was a Graduate Research Assistant and co-authored a national study of payment defaults on housing revenue bonds. He helped analyze the socio-economic conditions of the North Pacific fisheries with the Industry Economist, U.S. Department of Commerce.
After graduating from college, Steve went to work for Best Commercial Real Estate where he was a Commercial Real Estate Leasing and Sales Associate. His job was to prospect, negotiate, and close lease and sale transactions for owners and users of office and retail properties. Steve then went on to work as a Property Agent and Administrative Assistant II for the City of Tucson Technical Services Division. He helped to develop a feasibility analysis for a proposed $10 million homeownership program. He also acquired single family residences for the City’s Scattered Site Public Housing Program.
In 1994, Steve went to work for Bank One, NA Commercial Real Estate. He worked as a Market Manager, was first Vice President, and a Commercial Real Estate Banker. Steve managed a $175 million Commercial Real Estate Lending Department, and was responsible for business development, loan underwriting, portfolio monitoring, financial analysis, staffing, and business unit profitability.
Brother Dean is currently with Alliance Bank of Arizona, starting with them in 2005. He is currently Senior Vice President and manager of the Commercial Real Estate Division.
When not busy with work, Steve is active in his community. He is on the Pima County Real Estate Research Council, Metropolitan Pima Alliance, Tucson Regional Water Council, and Christmas in April. Brother Dean also loves to work with Habitat for Humanity, for whom he as donated his time for 13 years now how’s that for dedication?
Steve has also continued to be involved with Gamma-Rho, having served on the House Corporation Board for 15 years, including holding the position of Property Manager for a number of years. His dedication to Kappa Sigma helped keep 1423 East First in great shape.
